FAQs
What is tapping?
Tapping is an efficient, effective and often fun and quick healing tool. It is used to change the references held in the subconscious that result in problems in all areas of our lives. Tapping can be used to solve any issue - financial, personal, professional, emotional, psychological, physiological, or health related.
Is this a type of counselling? How is it different from my normal counselling/therapy?
Traditional counselling is a talking therapy. Tapping is a body centered therapy. Both are tools used to help work through behaviors, issues or trauma in a safe environment. With my years of experience as a traditional counsellor, I have integrated tapping into my professional practice.
How does tapping work?
Our brains are constantly acquiring, storing, retaining and eventually retrieving information. These are our memories, and our emotional state at the time greatly influences how accurate and objectively our brain holds on to memories. When we have experienced something traumatic, our memories of the event can end up distorted by negative thoughts and emotions, and we can end up having a sort of “memory hang-over” where we aren’t able to stop our emotional trauma from being relived. Tapping works by disrupting signals to the brain and the major organs of the body that trigger a fight or flight response.
What can I expect from a session?
Well, before a session can take place, it’s important that both you and I know a little about you. If you have a specific person, memory, event, time of your life you would like to be the focus of the session then please include that in your intake form (and you can be as vague or as specific as you like).
A tapping session may range from as short as 30 minutes to 120 minutes. I recommend starting with a 90 minute session as it’s common for the first ‘emotional breakthrough’ to take some time.
During and after the session I will be sharing techniques and resources with you that you can use between sessions.
I am happy to adapt sessions to be shorter to suit your specific needs. For some, a 30 minute boost session before an important interview, a family meet up, or a big event can give you the emotional clarity you need.
Are there any rules or limits on what I can/cannot bring to a tapping session?
Being from a traditionally counselling background with the relevant qualifications I can assure you that anything you share with me is completely confidential. There are no rules or limits to what you wish to share, all I ask is that to the best of your ability you bring an openness and trust to a process that is completely non-judgmental and supports the changes you are ready to make.
How quickly will I see results? How many sessions should I get?
Every person’s experience is different, and it’s not uncommon to experience immediate emotional and mental shifts. Results are complemented by doing work after sessions that support the desired outcomes. The number of sessions depends on the depth of the work you wish to do and how what exactly you’re looking to change as well as how receptive you are to the therapy. Tapping may not work for everyone, but my professional opinion is that it is the most effective tool I have come across when dealing with emotional trauma.
